3. Silent Hill 2 Remake

It’s been a while since the last Silent Hill game was released, so many gamers are on edge about the remake of Silent Hill 2. This makes sense taking into account that the 2001 sequel to the original game is considered to be the best entry in the series. And this remake is being handled by Polish studio Bloober Team, the people behind horror games such as Layers of Fear, with the support of Japanese video game company Konami, of course…

The thing is, there were doubts about Bloober’s handling of this remake of the survival horror classic after they put out a trailer showcasing the game’s combat at Sony’s State of Play show. This did not look quite right – more like a Resident Evil clone heavy on action – although Bloober assured fans this was not representative of the full game. More recent trailers (like the one below) inspire more confidence, with the game’s trademark heavy fog present and correct. Also, the sense of fear and creepy survival horror atmosphere do come across, so maybe this remake will be one of 2024’s top games when all is said and done.

Release date: October 8, 2024. Available on PS5 and PC.
